Details
A traditional Corfiot manor house dating back to the 16th and 18th Centuries. Montebello Manor has been authentically and sympathetically restored to make a comfortable and elegant home. Situated in a quiet north west village, only a short drive from beaches, shops and tavernas.
The property has a wealth of tradition behind it and the renovation was completed in co-operation with the archeological society. Artwork in the house documents the history through the centuries, portraying the property as it used to be.
Inside
The entrance to the main part of the house is through an arched gateway into a courtyard, with the cobbles defining the pattern of a clock. The large entrance door leads into an open plan hall/living area with a fireplace. A beautiful hand-crafted oak staircase leads to the upper floor bedrooms.
From the living room one door leads into the second, separate part of the house. This is currently being used as a self-contained apartment, complete with kithcen, shower room and bedroom.
Back in the lounge, another door leads through into the dining room and kitchen. The kitchen opens out onto to the wide veranda overlooking the garden and view. A separate door leads to a shaded courtyard at the back.
Upstairs there is a second living room with fireplace and views out across the trees. At the end of the hallway there is a large bedroom which could be converted into two rooms. There is another room on this level which is currently being used as an office. The large family bathroom is also on this floor. The hall has doors onto a traditional ‘bodzo’ balcony overlooking the courtyard and into the village.
The second section of the house dates back to the 16th Century. Here there are two bedrooms, a living room and kitchen all on one level. Patio doors lead out into the pretty courtyard garden. This part of the house also has a guest cloakroom.
Outside
The garden at the side of the house has 2 levels and is laid to lawn, plants and shrubs. A store cottage is located on the lower level. There is plenty of space for the construction of a swimming pool if desired. From the garden steps lead down to the lower area of land, which has been left in its natural state. There is parking at the entrance of the house.
The village has a small shop/coffee shop, and supermarkets are available in Roda or Sidari, approximately 15 minutes drive away. The lovely beach at Astrakeri is also 10 – 15 minutes drive.
This traditional Corfiot Manor house is one of very few properties of its kind. The history and tradition behind it can be seen throughout the property, with little round windows and arched doorways.
