South Corfu

The south of the island offers a wealth of surprises; the south westcoast has some of Corfu’s best-kept “secret” beaches, such as Halikounas and Issos. There is a good selection of villas for sale in the unspoilt west coast conservation area surrounding Lake Korission, where building is strictly limited to preserve the natural beauty of the region. The area boasts long sandy beaches, panoramic views and fabulous sunsets, and the Lake attracts hordes of flamingos in spring and autumn.

Only a few minutes drive across this narrow part of the island the drive from the spectacular west to the picturesque takes ony a few minutes, but the difference between the two sides is huge. The traditional fishing harbours and tavernas on the south east coast, in villages such as Boukari and Petriti have retained that authentic “Greekness” of days gone by.

Some of the properties in the south east are located directly on quiet sandy beaches, with shallow sea – perfect for families, whilst some of the south west properties are above almost private bays with steps leading down to the sea.

Sit back and enjoy an ouzo and mezze whilst watching the boats come and go and then drive along the winding road alongside the sea from Petriti up to Messonghi, for a reminder of the relaxed way of life in Corfu.
